Helmer to guide non-profit org

GarretsonHelmer Katy Garretson has been named exec director of the I Have a Dream Foundation -- Los Angeles.The appointment marks a career shift for Garretson, who will lead the non-profit org that provides mentoring and college scholarship funds to underprivileged students in the L.A. area."I had been looking to segue into a new career that would allow me to give back to the community, and the opportunity to work with (the Dream Foundation) on a full-time basis is a dream come true for me," she said.Garretson has a long resume as a TV helmer, mostly in sitcoms including "Frasier," "Reba," "George Lopez" and "Girlfriends."
